OCCASIONAL PHOTOS No.3

This is the building in which, in the basement, that first great black boxing champion, Jack Johnson, fronted a nightclub in Chicago - the club where Kate McTell says she and Willie met Johnson in April 1935 when they were in the city for their US Decca recording sessions, produced by Jay Mayo Williams, who had driven them there from Atlanta by car.
Willie's brief Chicago interlude is examined in Chapter 14 of the book.
